EMG

Reported by EMG
Clashes in Rakhine State were ignited by security failure, according to the statement issued by the National Democratic Front on 11 June.
The statement says clashes in Taungup and Maungdaw spread to Sittwe and Ramree as effective security measures were not taken in time for Rakhine nationals. In addition, the failure of administrative power caused adverse consequences. Actually, clashes in Rakhine State are crimes, and effective action should be taken against them according to existing laws.
The NDF also views that the clashes are taking place not between two different ethnic or religious groups, and these clashes were caused by mobs and anger. People in Rakhine State are now suffering from social woes. It is important to make an effort to end the strife that is threatening the lives and property of the people in Rakhine State.
In addition, the NDF is also against foreign interference and incitement of racial hatred in the clashes. The NDF urges authorities at different levels to make constant efforts to protect the interest of people in Rakhine State in accordance with the main objective of law, to take action against the crimes in accordance with rule of law and fair judicial system and to allow people in Rakhine State to enjoy basic rights of citizens like liberty, justice and equality.
